Gillian Harvey

University of Alberta

Gillian Harvey is an Associate Professor in Design Studies, Department of Art & Design at the University of Alberta (Canada). She is Co-Director of the Design Health Research Innovation Lab (DHRIL) and a World Region Representation of the International Institute of Information Design (IIID).

Her research prioritizes information design, design for decision making and design in critical or emergency situations including technical administration of emergency overdose kits, patient safety education materials and pediatric resuscitation. She has worked with government, industry and the private sector developing materials that include projects that address systems concerns, and enhance broader healthcare processes.


Giselle Beiguelman

Universidade de São Paulo

Giselle Beiguelman is an artist and professor at FAU-USP. She is the author of Políticas da imagem: vigilância e resistência na dadosfera [Politics of the Image: Surveillance and Resistance in the Data Sphere] and Memória da amnésia: políticas do esquecimento [Memory of Amnesia: Politics of Forgetting], among others. Her artistic works are part of museum collections in Brazil and abroad, such as ZKM, the Jewish Museum Berlin, MAC-USP, and the Pinacoteca de São Paulo.

In her recent projects, she investigates the construction of the colonialist imaginary in arts and sciences using Artificial Intelligence resources. She coordinates the FAPESP Thematic Project Digital Archives and Research: Art, Architecture, and Design. She has received several national and international awards.

Cláudia Mont’Alvão

Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro

Claudia Mont’Alvão is a coordinator and researcher at the Ergodesign and Usability of Interfaces Laboratory (LEUI/PUC-Rio). She has served as a visiting professor at Kookmin University and is currently an associate professor and researcher in the Graduate Program in Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).

She also collaborates as a researcher at UNIDCOM/IADE – European University and in the Graduate Program in Design at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA). Her research interests include the study and application of Human Factors and Ergonomics in Information Design, with a focus on Plain Language, usability, and user experience.


Helena de Barros

Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro

Helena de Barros is a designer and visual artist with extensive professional experience in communication design. She is a professor at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). She holds a PhD in Design from the same institution, and her doctoral thesis received the 32nd Museu da Casa Brasileira Award in 2018 and the Capes Thesis Award in 2019. She is a member of the CNPq research group Memoráveis, a member of SHARP, and co-coordinates Gie.MemóriaGráfica at the SBDI.

Her research focuses on the influence of image reproduction technologies on the expressive possibilities of design, exploring visual languages situated in their contexts of use and social practices. Her approach connects methods of material culture investigation, data visualization, and digital tools for the identification and analysis of images.


Claudio Pinhanez

Universidade de São Paulo

Scientist, innovator, and professor. He is a Principal Research Scientist at the IBM Research laboratory in Brazil and Deputy Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence at the University of São Paulo (C4AI). Claudio earned his PhD at the MIT Media Laboratory and is a specialist in artificial intelligence, human–computer interaction, conversational systems, service science, and natural language processing. He is one of the leaders of the PROLIND project, a collaboration between IBM Research and USP, which explores the use of artificial intelligence to promote and revitalize Brazilian Indigenous languages.
