About Curitiba


Curitiba is the capital city of Paraná and it was founded over 300 years ago. Its name is of tupi-guarani indigenous origin and refers to the pine nuts, which are the fruit of the araucaria tree, also known as the pinheiro-do-paraná palm tree. During the past decades, Curitiba became the city to offer the best quality of life in Brazil. Its urban planning has the citizens and their well-fare as a major focus, presenting daring architectural projects and innovating initiatives on quality public services. The city, which always seeks harmony with nature, offers a total of 17 million square meters of green areas, including parks, squares and gardens. Curitiba is also one of the most important centers of production and promotion of contemporary Brazilian culture and arts. Other striking features of the Curitiba culture are the fostering and the respect for the native ethnical and immigrant traditions, which had an active participation in the history of the construction of the city.

Getting in Curitiba
People coming from abroad will arrive at Afonso Pena Curitiba International Airport through Sao Paulo (50 min flight) or Rio de Janeiro (1 hour and 15 min flight). The airport is 30 min drive to the city centre. A bus service [shuttle] takes passengers to the main points of the city centre, other option is the pre-paid taxi, both means of transportation are available at the airport door.
